How to unblock drains
When the drain's a little slow
How
many times have you called your plumber to fix a slow or blocked
drain? And yet, like most plumbing problems, blocked drains can be
easily avoided with a little care and the right measures to keep
potential obstructions from washing down to where they might cause
a problem.
Blocked drains are easy to
avoid.
- Don't
pour things like fat, coffee grounds, rice, down the sink.
- Install
hair catchers in the bath and shower and don't flush foreign
objects down the toilet.
Blocked drains
The best thing to do is to
fill the blocked area and use a four-inch rubber plunger to force
air and water through the pipes. Plungers usually cost less than
£4 and are more effective than caustic soda. If you don't have a
plunger, use an old-fashioned mop.
If
plunging doesn't do the trick, try unblocking the trap, or If the
plunger is still unsuccessful you may need to use an auger or
better still call the Chiswick handyman and we'll fix it in a
jiffy.
